Wednesday August 5:

Australia’s best non-contracted male players returned to beautiful Mackay for the 2026 Century Champions League Mackay, with both Elite Seniors and Next XI battling it out across the weekend, many having their first hitout of the 2026/27 season in the late July/Early August sun.

The Adelaide Rockets, who only dropped one match over their three days of action, defended 166 in the Finale on Sunday evening, picking up their second Mackay victory after winning the Mackay Century Champions League tournament in 2024.

Led by Western Australian T20 gun-for-hire batter Will Bosisto, the Rockets were sent into bat by Mitchell Jameson and the top order of the Red and Black would be looking to get off to another fast start, with Jack Matchette belting the ball to all parts during the two teams’ round-match battle on Friday, scoring a rapid 53 from 32 deliveries with three maximums.

The captain of the Rocket ship
Bosisto, who was named player of the final and tournament, took it upon himself to lead the innings for the Rockets.

With wickets falling consistently at the other end, the 28-Game First Class veteran showed why he is one of, if not the best, uncontracted players in the country, belting 91 off only 61 deliveries including 7 boundaries and 5 huge sixes.

Aided by cameos from opener Robbie O’Donnell, who made a steady 28 from 26 balls, and Kensington Cricket Club’s Sam Rahaley bashing a quickfire 25 from 15 balls, getting the Rockets up to a steady 165/9 off their 20 overs, giving the Chargers an 8.3 RPO task.

RA Fast bowling all rounders Archie Lalor and Brodie Symonds were clear standouts with the Kooka in hand for the Chargers, collecting 3 a piece, with Lalor’s damage done early in the innings grabbing the first two wickets of the final with a cracking display of fast bowling and then backed it up in the death and was followed by Symonds who also was instrumental in the death for the Chargers with 3/37 from his spell.

With 31 coming inside the four-over Powerplay for the Chargers in reply courtesy of Brandon Faber, with the southpaw at St Kilda CC made his way through some carnage at the other end, showing his class with 38 (21) keeping the Chargers in the fight.

That carnage came by way of Rockets right-arm mystery spinner Yuvraj Singh, whose effort in the 6th over of the chase was the game-changer and arguably decided the whole game, grabbing Noah Panaia bowled with his second delivery of the over, then backed it up with beauties to Jack Lalor, who tickled behind to keeper Josh Barrett.

The hat-trick ball was the best of the bunch, finding the gap between bat and pad of Chargers skipper Jamieson to hit the off stump and spark wild celebrations from the men in Black and Red and left the Chargers reeling at 4/54.

All-rounder Brodie Symonds gave the chase a pulse as the balls remaining ticked towards empty, but again once the momentum of the chase was stunted by the loss of wickets, this time it was Mitch Constantinou the Bankstown leg-spinner, who broke through and pushed the Rockets further into the ascendancy.

Yuvraj Singh finished off the job, collecting his 5-wicket haul with figures of 5/17 off his four overs of work to give him a double chance at the match ball and give the Rockets the win.
